Te Ahurea Whakakotahi (Blended Culture)
These three tukutuku panels represent mahi toi (art work),pre colonisation and post colonisation. They are also a presentation of blended cultures. When you think about Aotearoa (New Zealand) today it is without a doubt , that a kiwi persons make up has more than one culture flowing through their bloodstream, thus creating Aotearoa a multi-cultural country . New materials provide easier ways for maori to create their mahi toi but still with tikanga values, it also created an opening for contemporary art. My three tukutuku panels are of traditional Maori and contemporary art and a combination of both mediums, telling a story of my Maori whakapapa and my Scottish heritage blended together to create my DNA “Kiwi”
